Our founding attorney Rachel Moyle is Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. But what does this mean to you, and why should you consider working with an attorney who is Board Certified? We hope to explain this important subject.

The Texas Board of Legal Specialization provides an opportunity for attorneys licensed to practice in Texas to earn the right to publicly present themselves as specialists. Only Board Certified attorneys can make this claim, and it is no easy feat to earn this right. In fact, out of the over 100,000 attorneys licensed to practice in Texas, only 7,400 are Board Certified.

“Board Certification, according to the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, means that an attorney has “substantial, relevant experience in a select field of law as well as demonstrated, and tested, special competence in that area of law.”

The process of becoming Board Certified is voluntary. Only attorneys with at least 5 years in practice, including at least 3 years in practice in their areas of specialty, may apply. It is also an ongoing process, requiring a continued involvement in that specialty area as supported by references from peers in the field. To maintain Board Certification, an attorney must also complete an annual refreshment of an approved continuing legal education course. This allows the attorney to remain at the frontline of the latest trends and changes in the law.
